Topic: Kindness is Never a Waste
VERSE OF THE DAY : Genesis 18:2-3, 5-8 .
So he lifted his eyes and looked, and behold, three men were standing by him; and when he saw them, he ran from the tent door to meet them, and bowed himself to the ground. He said, “My Lord, if I have now found favor in Your sight, do not pass on by Your servant. And I will bring a morsel of bread, that you may refresh your hearts. After that you may pass by, inasmuch as you have come to your servant.” They said, “Do as you have said.” So Abraham hurried into the tent to Sarah and said, “Quickly, prepare three measures of a fine meal: knead it and make cakes.” Abraham ran to the herd, took a tender and good calf, gave it to a young man, and he hastened to prepare it. He took butter and milk
and the calf which he had prepared, and set it before them; and he stood by them under the tree as they ate.
Kindness involves acts of generosity, consideration, and concern for others without expecting praise or reward in return.
In this scripture, Abraham and Sarah exemplify kindness. They were
considerate to their family, servants, and anyone around them, showing
compassion to all they encountered. In verse 2, Abraham runs to greet
strangers he has never met, inviting them for lunch. In verse 6, he
tells Sarah to prepare a meal without her questioning who these visitors
are, and she obeys.
Why were the angels standing by Abraham’s tent? Why did they not go
directly to Sodom? Did God send them to Abraham to test his kindness or
to deliver a message? The answer is that God knew Abraham was a
kind-hearted and righteous man.
We often acknowledge Abraham’s kindness, but we should also recognize
Sarah’s role as a loving and compassionate woman. She cared for those around her, she worried so much about Abraham’s childlessness that she even gave her maid to Abraham to bear a child (Genesis 16:3).
Kindness never goes to waste. Abraham and Sarah were rewarded with
long-promised blessings from God through the prophecy of the angels.
**Genesis 18:10 (NKJV)**
And He said, “I will certainly return to you according to the time of
life, and behold, Sarah your wife shall have a son.” (Sarah was listening in the tent door, which was behind him.)
Abraham’s kindness also led him to intercede for Sodom, pleading for Lot
and his family. His compassion resulted in the rescue of Lot and his loved ones from destruction.
Prayer: Lord, give me a kind heart, filled with love, care, and compassion for those around me, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
