GOODSEED DAILY DEVOTION: June 8, 2025

Topic: The Sabbath Day in Church/Temple

VERSE OF THE DAY: Exodus 20:8-9.
“Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor
and do all your work.”

As Christians, God commands us to keep the Sabbath day holy, and one of the ways we fulfill this commandment is by gathering together on Sundays to worship Him.
You might think attending church on Sundays is unnecessary or prefer to relax after a stressful week. However, regardless of the obstacles you face, it is God’s commandment that we come together in worship, and it is our duty to Him.
Our Lord Jesus Christ attended the Temple on the Sabbath day, healing the sick and performing many miracles.
One faithful Sunday morning, my family was preparing to go to church when my son’s friend called to meet up. My son told him over the phone that he was on his way to church. The friend asked, “Why are you going to church?” My son responded, “Aren’t you a Christian?” The friend replied, “Yes, I am a Christian, but I don’t go to church. Why not?”
How can you be a Christian and not go to church! That doesn’t make any sense . It’s like saying you are thirsty or hungry but you don’t want to drink water or any liquid or eat- that may lead to death. A christian that does not go to church is on the way to spiritual extinction.
Some Christians believe they can worship God at home on Sundays, claiming that God understands or that online worship is equivalent to attending church. However, let me tell you that you cannot fool God by neglecting His commandments.
God asks you to dedicate one day out of seven to present yourself holy before Him in worship. If you are a follower of Christ, woe to you if you do not keep this commandment: it would be better not to call yourself a Christian.
“For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea and everything in them, and He rested on the seventh day. That is why the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.”
Some Christians listen to agents of Satan, so-called online pastors, who encourage disobedience to God’s commandments, claiming that worshiping at home is sufficient. Others think they can attend church only on Christmas or during funerals. They may bear names like Peter, John, or James, but they neglect church on Sundays. Woe to them.
Jesus Christ warned us in Matthew 7:15: “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves.”
My brother and sister, Be obedient to God’s commandment for you are made to worship God in truth.

Prayer: Lord, give me grace to obeyed your commandment and not to depart
from your presence in Jesus name. Amen.
