Topic: THE IMPORTANCE OF PENTECOST
Scripture:
Acts 2:1-3, ” And when the day of Pentecost was fully come,they were all in one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind,and it filled all the house where they were sitting. And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire,and it sat upon each of them”
Message:
Pentecost has great religious significance.Primarily because it marks the day when the Holy Spirit was poured out on all the apostles and Disciples of Jesus, fulfilling Jesus’ promise that He would send them another advocate (John 14:16).Jesus was crucified at Passover time and He ascended 40 days after His resurrection. Pentecost was 50 days after the resurrection and ten days after the ascension. Jew of many nations gathered in Jerusalem for their festival of thanksgiving for their harvested crops. On Pentecost day, God confirmed the validity of the Holy Spirit by Sending Fire, Symbolising that God’s presence is now available to all who believe in Him. Also this is the fulfilment of John the Baptist’ word about the Holy Spirit’s baptising with Fire,(Luke 3:16), and the prophet Joel’s words about the outpouring of the Holy Spirit(Joel 2:28-29).
It is through the work of the Holy Spirit that we come to faith in Jesus Christ and are equipped and empowered to serve. Most likely you have experienced the Holy Spirit in different ways. The gifting of the Holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost was a significant moment that continues to bless the lives of believers and empowers Christians to live out their faith and proclaim the Gospel. It’s this same Spirit that transforms hearts and lives.
Without penticost- Christianity become like all other weak and powerless religions. But on the day of penticost- Dunamis (Power) for the believer was released and man was restored to his original glory with God through the Holy Ghost.
PRAYER:
Father God; fill Your Church afresh with the Holy Spirit.Send the Spirit of Counsel upon us for the accomplishment of Your holy will in our lives,in the Church, and in the world. Incline our hearts to Your will, our minds to right judgment,and our actions to what is good, so that living by the Holy Spirit,we may truly be “salt and light” for others In Jesus’ name, Amen.
