TOPIC: VICTORY IS YOURS (1)
SCRIPTURE: JUDGES 6:11–12
Gideon threshed wheat in the winepress, in order to hide it from the Midianites. And the Angel of the LORD appeared to him, and said to him, “The LORD is with you, you mighty man of valor!”
In Judges 6 we find a character with whom we can identify‘’Gideon.’’ Some years after the Lord brought the Israelites into the Promised Land, they stopped honoring Him. They began to lose their distinctiveness, and as a result began to be oppressed by their enemies, particularly by the Midianites who tormented them, especially at harvest time. God’s people became beaten down and filled with despondency. The enemy tries to do the same with us today. Gideon is a good example of that despondency. He was so terrorized by the Midianites that he threshed wheat in a winepress—the worst place for that task. But the angel who appeared to him called him a mighty warrior (though he wasn’t a mighty warrior at all, but a scared farmer). Gideon replied, “If the Lord is with us, why has this happened to us?” Jewish theology taught that God lived among His people, but Gideon’s people had begun to look at their circumstances instead of at their theology.
When you begin to look at your God through your circumstances, it will shift your faith. Gideon needed to be reminded that whatever his circumstance, the Lord was with him. You may live in very difficult circumstances, but you must see your circumstances in the light of your God, this is where miracles start. Victory is a product of self discovery. You are more than what the optical eyes can see. You are destined for victory.
