Topic: REAL COMPASSION
Scripture:
MATTHEW 9:35-38
And Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people. But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd. Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few; Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest._
Jesus had compassion for the lost and so we must have the compassion of Jesus to reach our world with the Gospel of Christ.
We need to have compassion for the lost. This compassion was modeled for us by none other than Jesus himself.
We read in Matthew 9:36 that “when [Jesus] saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.”
When Jesus saw the crowds, he was not indifferent towards them, he was not judgmental. He was compassionate. He loved them. He saw that they were lost and needed a shepherd, and he had compassion for them.
The church is not meant to be an inward or a closed community, but one that reaches out to other people.
We are called to love our neighbor, not just ourselves.
The moment we stop reaching out, we cease to be a healthy community.
The church should never act or feel superior towards those outside the community of believers.
We need to remember that we were once lost, too. We should not be angry, abusive or unkind. Rather, we should act lovingly toward those outside of Christ.
Real compassionate love is what the world need in these critical times.
The world needs to experience the love, life and power of God through us.
We must see the world with the eyes of Christ.
PRAYER:
Dear God thank you for the Love of Christ that is at work in me and propelling me to reach out and spread the love of God to my world in Jesus name. Amen.
