Topic: Be Devoted to God
Genesis 39:9 (NKJV)– “There is no one greater in this house than I, nor has he kept back anything from me but you, because you are his wife. How then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?”
In a world full of temptations, we are often faced with decisions that challenge our integrity and faith. Joseph’s example shows us that we must see sin for what it is—an offense against a holy and loving God. Let us be people who flee from sin, not out of fear of consequences, but out of love for God and a desire to honour Him in everything we do. Ask yourself today: “How can I honour God in my decisions and actions?”
In this verse, Joseph demonstrates a remarkable integrity and devotion to God in the face of temptation. As a slave in Potiphar’s house, Joseph had been entrusted with great responsibility. However, Potiphar’s wife tried to seduce him, urging him to sin. Joseph’s response was powerful: “How then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?” Even though he could have justified giving in, Joseph recognized that any sin was first and foremost an offense against God.
David said in Psalm 119:11 .your word I have hidden in my heart, that I might not sin against You. “Like Joseph, we can arm ourselves against temptation by keeping God’s word in our hearts, reminding us of His presence and His call to holiness.
Prayer:
Lord, give us the strength to flee from temptation and sin. Like Joseph, help us to recognize that every sinful action is an offense against you. May we desire to honour you in our thoughts, words, and deeds, and give us the courage to stand firm in righteousness? In Jesus’ name, Amen
