Topic: THE BLESSED LIFE: DELIGHTING IN GOD’S WORD.

Scripture: Psalm 1:1-2 (NKJV) – “Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the path of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful; but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in His law he meditates day and night.”

Psalm 1 paints a vivid picture of two kinds of lives: one that is blessed and flourishing, and one that leads to destruction. The key to the blessed life lies in our relationship with God’s Word. The psalmist shows us that a person who refuses to walk in ungodly counsel, avoids sinful ways, and rejects the influence of mockers is set apart for blessing. Instead, this person chooses to delight in God’s law—His Word—and meditates on it consistently, day and night.

To “delight” in God’s Word means to treasure it, to find joy and fulfilment in reading, understanding, and applying it. It’s not a duty, but a desire—a craving for God’s truth. The more we immerse ourselves in His Word, the more we are shaped by it. This leads to a life that is deeply rooted in God, like a tree planted by rivers of water, producing fruit in every season.

Picture a tree by a river, its roots reaching deep into the soil, constantly nourished by the flowing water. No matter the season—whether drought or storm—this tree remains strong and fruitful because it is continually fed. In the same way, when we stay connected to God’s Word, our spiritual roots grow deep, and we become strong and fruitful, even in challenging times. In Joshua 1:8 “This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.”

Just like in Psalm 1, meditating on God’s Word and obeying it brings about success and prosperity in life—not necessarily material wealth, but spiritual abundance and alignment with God’s will.
What is shaping your life today? Are you influenced by the counsel of the world, or are you finding your delight in God’s Word? The blessed life doesn’t come from chasing worldly wisdom, but from being rooted in God’s truth. Make it a priority to meditate on His Word day and night, allowing it to guide and transform you. In doing so, you will be like that tree planted by the rivers of water, strong and fruitful in every season.

Prayer: Lord, thank You for the power and wisdom found in Your Word. Help us to delight in your law, to meditate on it day and night, and to allow it to shape every area of our lives In Jesus name.
