CONFIDENCE THROUGH CHRIST
Scripture: 2 Corinthians 3:4-5 (NIV) says ‘such confidence we have through Christ before God. Not that we are competent in ourselves to claim anything for ourselves, but our competence comes from God.”*
As Christians, we sometimes face moments of doubt, feeling unqualified for the tasks or challenges before us. But Paul reminds us that our sufficiency and competence come from God, not from our own strength or ability.
Consider Moses, who felt inadequate to lead Israel out of Egypt, saying, “I am slow of speech” (Exodus 4:10). Yet God assured him, “I will help you speak” (Exodus 4:12). Or Gideon, who saw himself as the weakest of his tribe, yet God told him, “I will be with you (Judges 6:16*). In both cases, it wasn’t about their abilities but God’s power working through them.
Jesus, in John 15:5, teaches us that He is the vine, and we are the branches— we can do nothing apart from Him. When we stay connected to Christ, our strength and ability flow from Him.Paul also knew this deeply, saying in 2 Corinthians 12:9, “God’s power is made perfect in weakness.” When we embrace our dependence on God, His strength works through our weaknesses. Also in John 15:5, Jesus says, “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. ”,. Our fruitfulness and ability to fulfil God’s purpose come not from our strength but from our connection to Jesus. Are you feeling inadequate or overwhelmed today? Surrender that to God, trusting His strength.
Prayer:
Lord, I acknowledge my need for you. When I feel weak or unqualified, remind me that my strength and confidence come from you alone. Help me remain connected to you, trusting in your power to carry me through. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
