Agbara Nla: The Return Records Strong Preview Opening, Surpasses ₦71 Million

Nollywood faith-based film Agbara Nla: The Return has recorded an impressive opening during its preview screenings, with reported sales exceeding ₦71 million ahead of its full theatrical release.

The film, a contemporary remake of the 1993 Christian classic Agbara Nla, attracted thousands of cinema-goers during its preview period, generating significant attention within Nigeria’s film and entertainment industry.

According to reported Nigerian Box Office figures, the movie recorded approximately ₦70 million from 12,134 admissions between September 25 and October 1, 2026. Its distributor, Nile Entertainment, later announced that the film had crossed the ₦71 million mark in preview sales.

The achievement adds to the growing visibility of faith-based productions within Nigeria’s cinema landscape. Agbara Nla: The Return brings the story of the original film to a contemporary audience while retaining its central themes of faith, spiritual conflict and the power of the gospel.

The new production is directed by Damilola Mike-Bamiloye and Joshua Mike-Bamiloye, with veteran filmmaker Mike Bamiloye returning as Isawuru, the character he portrayed in the original 1993 production.

Set in the fictional community of Muwonleru, the film follows two believers, Olaboye and Olatomi, who leave the city to preach the gospel in a community under the influence of the powerful herbalist Isawuru.

With its strong preview performance, Agbara Nla: The Return is now drawing attention as one of the notable faith-based releases in Nigeria’s 2026 cinema calendar, particularly for its ability to connect a well-known Christian film story with a new generation of cinema audiences.
